Homer Costa's Hummingbird

Is the home owner open to allowing local birders over to see the Costa's Hummingbird frequenting his hummingbird feeder?

We would appreciate any information that could be provided.

Re: RUSTY BLACKBIRD in town

On May 10th there was a male and female RUSTY BLACKBIRD remaining close to the lower viewing platform on Beluga Lake at the end of FAA Road. The male was in full display and the female was responding to him. Of course Rusty Blackbirds are observed in this appropriate breeding habitat and specific lo...

Re: WHITE-WINGED CROSBILLS

Our White-winged Crossbill invasion began in late May in the greater Kenai - Soldotna area. They have been and still are the most ubiquitous bird on our landscape. It's difficult to walk for ten minutes and not see or hear a flock or two. Of course we have a better than average spruce cone crop this...

Re: Starlings

On November 10th we observed a flock of 15 EUROPEAN STARLINGS in Old Town Kenai, by far the largest flock of this species in our locality during our 11 years of residence. Previously we would occasionally see them in one's or two's at most, once every few years. Seward residents are reporting more S...

Conclusion of Count Week Birds

On Tuesday the 23rd we birded Homer. The weather was very mild - 20’s, little wind, occasional fog. The highlights were easily the Mallard X Northern Pintail hybrid drake, American Coot, Townsend’s Solitaire, and especially a very late and well viewed American Pipit (all photographed). Most of our t...

Homer Sapsucker, Hummers, and Pheasants

Has anyone searched and or refound the Red-breasted Sapsucker at Seasides Farm since the 25th? Has anyone seen any Homer hummingbirds of late? When and where? Has anyone seen and Ring-necked Pheasants of late? When and where? Any information that would help us find these species (or other notable on...

Re: Harris's Sparrow

On Monday the 21st Ken Tarbox's and our party looked neighborhood-wide without success - absolutely no sparrows. Ken's party went back at noon and stumbled on the bird while on the bluff slope scanning the Bay for eiders. Our party went back shortly after and could not relocate the bird along the bl...

Re: Harris's Sparrow

Jackie,

Keep us updated on the status of the Harris's Sparrow. This is a Kenai Peninsula vagrant that has become less common over the last 10 years.
