Wonderful Merry Christmas Bird Count in Homer!! Good weather for good optics with no snow falling during the day and a grand and glorious rainbow at the end of the day!

All that AND we found 65 species! A few feeder watchers yet to report in, however. What we got...

The COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD was seen and what a fantastic bird anytime, especially now! It has been in the Clayton Rd area which is out East End Rd about 5 miles, above Wasabi's.

A pair of REDHEADS was seen off Miller's Landing and there were 4 woodpeckers seen: HAIRY, DOWNY, AMERICAN THREE-TOED, AND BLACK-BACKED!

EURASIAN WIGEONS (several pairs) were found on the south side of Beluga Slough.

I believe we have a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW for the Count Week and now a GREAT HORNED OWL.

We will report and post (on our website) the final numbers with species when Dave Erickson has them finalized. Please note that it is still Count Week for us until midnight on Tuesday night. Email Dave with anything unusual that you see.

A big thank you to all the many volunteers and to the staff at Islands and Ocean for letting us use their wonderful facility and helping us out also with logistics during the day. And to Dave Erikson for coordinating our Count here now for the last 41 years!
