Short-eared Owl base of spit

Postby keagle » Thu Mar 15, 2018 8:06 pm

I'm almost positive about the ID. Tonight Thursday at approx 7:45PM first seen toward the base of the spit sitting on a 35MPH sign and then flew off toward the base of the spit parking lot (bayside in/near alders) and then flew east along mud bay. My son got a not so great photo which I may try to post if it came out at all...
good night to bird... funny, as I was complaining about not seeing birds, my son was spotting the bird sitting right there along the road, with me driving obliviously, complaining!

I think this owl is making the rounds about town - Early April 3-5 about 7 p.m. I saw what looked to be an owl fitting this description fly across East End Rd towards Mossy's. It was just above and in front of my car. I had to be somewhere or I would have stopped to watch it. And then - On Sunday April 8th -- I saw a similar size & color fly from West Homer school south towards the bay and make several low passes in the clearings between the trees. I didn't have binocs handy. Watched it hunt for about 10 minutes or so.
