Incredible lighting at Beluga Slough last night to highlight a delightful, fun, inspiring crane show of families and groups highlighted by golden sun and dropping into Beluga Slough with a backdrop of gorgeous red and gray clouds. You will have to wait for the video to see that. Totals for last night at Beluga Slough count from 6:30 pm until 9:45 pm was 99 adults and 38 colts with a grand total of 137! What an evening.
We will do it again next Saturday on September 8. This count will give us and indication if migration has started.
Enjoy the cranes, migration will start very soon. Since the cranes are roosting overnight at Beluga Slough, early birds can try catching the fly out just after 6 am.
P.S. (from Lani)
A group of Wilson's Snipe was present most of this time, very near-by, feet away. Also some yellowlegs. Many good closeup photo-ops, I'll attach some. Nina took the yellowlegs, Megan O'Neil, the snipe. There was also a possible jaeger and if anyone got a photo of that, I'd love to have it to share.
